As of October 13, 2004, the U.S. Social Security Administration changed the regulations regarding the eligibility of F-1 students to get a Social Security Card and Number (SS#). F-1 students must now have a job in order to be eligible for a SS#. To apply for a SS#, F-1 students must present proof of a job or a job offer (from hiring department) and authorization for employment from a Designated School Official (DSO) in ISSS.
This is also true for F-1 students who already have a SS#, but lose their card. F-1 students must have a current job or job offer in order to apply for a replacement card. |
